JOHN McCAIN'S FUTILE EFFORT

Back when Al Gore was 'handed' the future presidency by Clinton, the battle for the Republican leadership seemed to me to be a one man race. John McCain was one of those leaders who seemed to have it all. He had spent five years in a Vietnamese prisoner of war prison and had come through it apparently unscarred and un-embittered and still a patriot destined to be in politics. He seemed very intelligent and held the noble conservative values which most westerners do especially that of government fiscal responsiblility. I am not a conservative but do respect values such as that of not allowing the government too much control of 'my' money, so to speak. I may be naive but remembering the race back then, George W. Bush appeared as an also run and McCain as a true leader, something missing in most countries in the world. I understand now that he was no match for the backroom boys like Karl Rove and a couple of leaked, false rumours did him in.

Now he's trying again and appears to have no chance whatsoever. This would be a perfect chance for him to be really heard and to trumpet the failures of past administrations. He could expose the weaknesses of institutions like education and health and do so in an un-partisan way which would be unheard of in the Republican party. It is his only chance now to gain lost respect among Americans and he won't 'go out' like a sad bastard.
